Saturday Arvo series

Over the least few months I have been adding to a new project slowly about Saturday Arvo's...Today it was time on my sister and brother-in-law's farm after finishing work. It was also an excuse to capture some shots for my upcoming "Fathers and Sons" work to be exhibited at M16 Artspace from the 4th September this year during VIVID.

The Saturday Arvo theme came about from spending many a weekend working with portraits and weddings and thinking whilst I obviously should produce lovely images for my clients I always shoot some for me too...in between jobs and always making time to stop the car and capture something that inspires, no matter how banal. I guess I aim to be able to shoot this sort of work when I can as its an amazing world out there, even though it passes us by without so much of a blink!

Two weeks catch up!!

WOWee have i been busy!! Have desparately being playing catch up after being off work for 2 weeks recovering from my appendix op!...Just thought I would post a few photos from some recent poppet portraits!

Looking forward to catching up with Lee Grant tomorrow for lunch...It will be great to meet a most fantastic photographer who lives locally!

AIPP Australian Photographic Print Awards 2008

Well, APPA is done for another year and this year was one of my least successful having only two silver with distinction awards....Don't get me wrong I am VERY happy with the scores I received. I cannot complain after all the stuff that has happened in my life this year, culminating in my having my appendix out last week. I am really over the moon for my dear friend Mercury from Melbourne success who enbded up taking out Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year as well as the big prize of Australian Professional Photographer of the Year. He deserves it and the images he entered are amazing!!! Hopefully, next year it'll be me...The image here is one of the shots I entered which had much great debate. Thanks to David Oliver who loved the shot and managed to convince the other judges of its merit!

Still recovering today and hopefully back at work next week....see you all then!

Latest update

Have had a very strange day with some crazy vertigo happening...Dr says it may be a side effect of the general anaesthetic I had on Monday to remove appendix...Havent been able to lie down without feeling like the world was a spinning top!

Did have one happy bit of news as I have had lots of texts and calls from my lovely photographer friends who are in Brisbane for the AIPP Australian Photographic Print Awards. I have also been told that the image of Max and Ben seen here on my blog mid May has been awarded an 86 or a
Silver with Distinction!! I am really happy about that and hope Max and Ben will be too!

Anyway, must go an rest and here's hoping for a few more awards over the weekend!

Off Sick!! Emergency Appendectomy on weekend

Well here I am at my parent's house being looked after hand over foot. I have just had my appendix out and so now I am off work for a week or so!! To all those I photographed last week, thanks for being so patient and allowing me to get better before I see you again. For everyone else who is keen to use my services, you can email me and when I am upright ( about once a day for a limited time!!) I shall get some information back to you as soon as I can.

I am very disappointed as this weekened I was meant to be one of the judges at the AIPP Canon Annual Photographic print Awards being held in Brisbane. Its a wonderful time where a couple of 1000 photographers get together, talk shop and compete in the most prestigious professional awards in the country......and I can't be there........... :( Have fun everyone and have a glass of bubbly for me!!
